Reaching Out to Less Fortunate this Holiday

It’s that time of the year when we spend time with our families, eat turkey, and most importantly– give thanks for all the things we have. But did you know that some people don’t get to celebrate Thanksgiving like we do?

When we share laughs, have priceless moments, get to see loved ones that we don’t get to see that often, and eat all that amazing food, let’s not forget that some people don’t have those same privileges.

St. Leo’s students did an outreach activity this month to help the less fortunate for Thanksgiving. Every class was assigned a different kind of food to bring in and whether it was canned vegetables, fruits, flour, or bread, everyone pitched in. By the end of the week a lot of food donations were collected.

Today, the school did a “faith family” activity (an activity where a school family made up of about 20 students from different grades works on a special project), where each group decorated a plain box with colorful paper and pictures they colored themselves to put the donations in.

Each box was different and original, and later in the day, all the donations were packaged into the boxes that will be sent out to people in the community who can’t afford to celebrate Thanksgiving this year.

We have so many things to be thankful for, and we recognize that better when we think about those who are less fortunate than we are. When you celebrate Thanksgiving this year, keep those people in mind and remember to never take what you have for granted.
