This Special Squad Deserves Three Cheers

Have you ever wondered who is making all the noise in the corner of the gym? That would be our Saint Leo cheerleading squad. You may think it is easy to just yell out cheers, but they practice weekly just like the basketball team does, on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school in the auditorium.

The 6th to 8th cheerleading squad are very good at what they do. We also have a pep squad for 5th grade. They always support our basketball games and they always keep the team’s confidence up. Most of the other schools don’t have 6th and 7th grade students on their cheerleading squad, like we do, or a 5th grade pep squad either.

Their most famous cheer is “That’s all right that’s okay, shake it off shake it off.” They usually yell out this cheer when the team makes a mistake or misses a free throw, for instance. They also do a dance at halftime, which entertains the crowd while the teams are not playing. That following cheer seems to always pump up the crowd.

The coach of the cheerleading squad, Ms. McGill, made it possible for our school to have a cheerleading squad and provided them with new uniforms. She puts in a lot of work too, just like the cheerleaders, so that they are ready and on the top of their “game” at every game.

So at the next game get ready to stand up, be loud, and get ready to cheer with our cheerleaders.
