We’re back! As you may (or not) know, Andrea and I have just come back from our class trip to Washington, D.C. and it was AMAZING!! I can tell you, first hand, that it was great and I had a lot of fun. It took five hours to get there, but it was worth the flight. There is an article on this website about the whole trip–written by yours truly–so I can move on to other things. Make sure you read it!

Coming up is our annual Spring Concert. Each year there is always a new theme. Last year’s theme was the “80’s” and this year it’s “Motown.” It’s always a pleasure seeing each class perform. Also coming up is the Spring Recital. It’s when the choir, band, and some soloists come out and perform to parents. It’s always a great show, and it’s great to see the talents students at our school have!

One thing the choir does every year is sing at the Oakland Police Department’s memorial service for their fallen officers. They’ve been doing it for ten years now (that’s a decade!) and, well, read editor Andrea’s article about it to learn more. This year’s memorial service also honored the four officers who were shot and killed while on duty back on March 21st.

Here’s a question for you to think about– do you think this would have happened if there were no guns at the site? Do you think this would have happened if guns were not allowed to people other than police officers?

It has been brought up many times that if guns were banned, less fatality and injuries would occur. Although guns are one of the main causes of fatalities in America, it is not the only reason. Personally, I believe that if guns were not at the site on that sad Saturday back in March, I believe no one would have experienced death, maybe a few injuries, but no deaths.

So, the school year is coming to an end… literally! There will be more articles coming up, and I have one more editor’s letter left, my final one, so it might be a little long.

AND DON’T FORGET! The 2009 yearbook is on sale. And let me tell you, they are AWESOME!! I got to see a preview of the book and it’s new and improved and the whole yearbook is in color. It is even selling for a reasonable price! You might think it’s a little expensive, but for $35, you’re getting twice as much inside for only five dollars more than last year’s price ($30). So don’t forget to order one soon, because they are selling fast!

Make sure you end the year off right! See you next month.

Sincerely,

Hello all Lion Ledger news junkies (people hooked on the news)! It’s me, your editor-in-chief after a month of absence. Well, more like two since there wasn’t a February edition online. If you watched the video we posted online a few weeks ago, you’ll know why the newspaper staff has been absent. If you didn’t, it was because we were helping the yearbook staff finish up the yearbook– which is now finished and on sale for a great price.

If you have been on the site lately you have seen a lot of other articles from the newswire service, but no worries, we are back and new articles written by us are on their way. Look out soon for stories on the hot Summer movies coming out (reviews and previews), the Oakland A’s and if they’re staying or not, Spring sports season wrap-up, and a whole lot more. Plus don’t forget to check out the video section for any new uploads!

As you may already know, Andrea (the other editor) and I will be on our way to D.C next week. Not just us two though. Our whole class. We plan on seeing a lot of museums, monuments, and memorials. Maybe even get to see the President!! We’ll let you know how our trip to Washington, D.C. went when we get back from the trip. Bye for now and keep your eyes open to the site!

Sincerely,

Hey you guys, told you I would be back to tell you about the recent events that are going on at St. Leo’s! By the way, Happy New Year! So, what are your New Year’s Resolutions?

So, I bet you are wondering what is going on at St. Leo’s, right? Well, in honor of the Presidential Inauguration that is coming up on Tuesday, January 20, the school is having a big celebration. And When I say big, I really mean BIG!

The whole event is being catered, and all the students and teachers are expected to dress in only dressy black and white clothes. I am expecting it to be really exciting, (and fancy)!

On top of the Inauguration celebration, Catholic Schools Week is also coming up, January 25th to Febuary 1st. It is a week when there are four different days of activities that the students take part in. Every year though, the activities change.

Some past activities we have had are: pajama day, career day, mix-match day, etc. Every year though, on the Tuesday of Catholic Schools Week, there is an Open House where future St. Leo Students and their parents cane come and check out the school.

So, those are the updates at what is going on at the first month of the New Year at St. Leo’s. Tune in next month to see our next issue of The Lion Ledger where we will be covering all the things that are going on In February at St. Leo the Great School. See you soon!

Sincerely,

Hey guys, it’s the editor of The Lion Ledger here! So, how are you liking the newspaper? Did you know you can comment on the articles and features on the website? You can tell us if you liked it, what you want us to talk about or whatever you feel like saying. (If it’s not appropriate, we won’t approve it).

So I’m here to give you the heads up of what has happened, what is happening, and what is going to happen at Saint Leo the Great School!

Last week, we had our annual Christmas Concert. It was a great success. Can you belive that the whole Saint Leo church was packed! It was a great treat for the parents to see all the different grades performing! This year though, there was a twist to the program, THE FIRE ALARM WENT OFF! Sadly though, the Praise Dancers didn’t get to perform their routine, and the school didn’t get to do their end finale.

Also last week, there was a Santa’s boutique tha was held on Sunday. Students, their families, their friends, and the whole community came over to the boutique and shopped around at the little trinket “shops,” listened to the Saint Leo Gospel Choir sing, and be a part of the few lucky people who got their name called in the raffle. It was an event that shouldn’t have been missed. Overall, that and the concert were the highlights of December.

Don’t forget to keep your eye out for next month’s issue, of shall I say “web issue.” Talk to you soon!

Sincerely,

Hey guys, it’s the editor of the best online newspaper coming at you here. So, how do you like the newspaper so far? If you like it now, get excited because it’s going to get better by the issue.

Did you guys know this is the first ever online newspaper for St. Leo the Great? Actually, it’s the first ever newspaper… period! Isn’t that exciting?

So, earlier this school year, a bunch of events took place. Like the Back-to-School family fun nights, where St. Leo students and their families came and ate a bunch of great food, dance until their feet hurt, and had a great time. There was also a movie night where the 8th grade students put on a movie and served snacks to raise some money for their Washington D.C trip.

And last month, there was a great Halloween Carnival that had a great (and scary) haunted house, a disco mama, and some delicious food. Coming up, there is going to be a Christmas boutique with breakfast, shopping, and a chance to meet Santa. Don’t miss it!

By the way, I wanted to express my thoughts on the 2008 election. Both candidates were really great, and they each had a great shot at becoming president. When you look back to the beginning of the election, it’s kind of amazing that we finally made it to Election Day, don’t you think?

So, tune in for the December issue of THE LION LEDGER! Look out for the Christmas Wish List (where we see what are the top toys kids of 2008 are asking for), and see how St. Leo students and teachers spend their time around the holidays.

And lastly, while you’re on the website, don’t forget to play the new games, take your vote on the polls, and just have fun!

Sincerely,
